Living Deeply:
The Art and Science of Transformation in Everyday Life

Marilyn Mandala Schlitz, Cassandra Vieten, Tina Amorok

Opportunities to actively engage in your own transformation and that of our world are woven into the fabric of everyday life. Learning more about the terrain of consciousness transformation can not only give you a map, but can also help you become the cartographer of your own transformative journey. During the last decade at the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS), researchers have systematically surveyed the life transformations of more than a thousand people, and have conducted more than 60 in-depth interviews with teachers of the
world’s spiritual, religious, and transformative traditions. Weaving together cutting-edge science with the wisdom of these traditions through video, discussion, and experiential process, this workshop will explore what IONS has learned about how people experience deep shifts in their consciousness, and how those shifts can lead to healing and wholeness.

Marilyn Mandala Schlitz, PhD, Cassandra Vieten, PhD, and
Tina Amorok, PsyD,
are researchers at the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) and coauthors of Living Deeply: The Art and Science of Transformation. Schlitz is vice president of IONS. A scientist, medical anthropologist, writer, speaker, and change consultant, her work over the past three decades explores the interface of consciousness, science, and healing. Vieten is a clinical psychologist and researcher at California Pacific Medical Center whose research has focused on mindfulness-based approaches to cultivating well-being, and on practices that lead to psychospiritual transformation. Amorok is a clinical and research psychologist whose current research on ecotrauma and ecorecovery of being examines how to heal and transform our relationship with the natural world.

Sonic Meditations
and Deep Listening

Pauline Oliveros

Deep Listening, a process created by Pauline Oliveros, explores
the relationship between sound and consciousness. In this practice, one actively directs attention to any and all sounds in order to expand one’s listening and to direct the interaction between oneself and the sources of sound. In this way, practitioners experience meaning within themselves and their world. This workshop will introduce participants to the history and practice of Deep Listening through exercises and partner processing. Participants will have an opportunity to do energy exercises, listening practices, slow walking, and journal writing, and to experience Sonic Meditations, original compositions by Oliveros, to understand how the practice of Deep Listening can be used for improvisation, creativity, and movement with the intention of healing.

Pauline Oliveros is one of the most influential figures in experimental music over the past 50 years. As a composer and improviser, she has created definitive and original works using a classical electronic music studio, modular synthesizers, and her own Expanded Instrument System, which combines any acoustic instrument or voice with software transformations she has designed. Oliveros has written extensively about music, consciousness, and humanitarian concerns. Her Deep Listening philosophy advocates expanding awareness and attentiveness by “listening in every possible way to everything possible to hear, no matter what you are doing.”

Devotional Singing:
A Voice Celebration

Deva Premal and Miten

The singing voice is a powerful healing instrument. When was
the last time you really opened your voice in joy and sang from
your heart?

This workshop is for people who have a longing in their hearts to sing “YES!” to life, a longing to sing “THANK YOU!” to life, and a longing to open the door to their own inner beings, to their own
inner peace. Even if you have never sung communally before, this is a safe and nurturing environment in which to connect with your voice without judgment and doubt, a place where the fragrance of God becomes tangible.

Don't miss Deva Premal & Miten in concert at Grace Cathedral!

Deva Premal and Miten are living proof that mantras are as relevant today as they were thousands of years ago. With more than half a million CDs sold worldwide and regular performances across North America, Asia, Europe, and Australia, this couple, in both life and music, have touched the hearts of millions of seekers throughout the world. Their fans include His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Cher, Anthony Robbins, Brandon Bays, and Eckhart Tolle. As one recent concert attendee shared, “I’ve been going to concerts since 1965, but never have I experienced the peace, the joy, and the depth of stillness that I felt in your
concert.”
