Mind Beyond Death:
Essential Instructions on
Living and Dying Well

Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche

Tibetan Buddhist teachings on the bardos—the intervals of life,
death, and beyond—are extremely detailed, penetrating, and subtle. Working with the bardos means learning how to live fearlessly. According to Buddhist teachings, the reality is that death and birth take place continually. How do we learn to recognize this sense of moment-to-moment death in our lives?

With his characteristic warmth, humor, and clarity, Dzogchen
Ponlop Rinpoche makes the teachings on the bardos completely
available to Western students. From the spiritual perspective of the Vajrayana Buddhist tradition, he applies these teachings to personal concerns about our own living and dying and presents the transformative experience of “mind beyond death.” Knowing how to relate to the challenging transitions of life and death is essential wisdom for living and dying well.

Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche is one of the foremost scholars and educators of his generation in the Nyingma and Kagyü schools of Tibetan Buddhism. He is known for his sharp intellect, humor, and lucid teaching style. An accomplished meditation master, calligrapher, visual artist, and poet, he is also well-versed in Western culture and technology. He is the primary architect for the many websites under the Nalandabodhi/Nitartha umbrella; publisher of Bodhi magazine, an internationally distributed Buddhist periodical; and the author of Mind Beyond Death (2007),
Penetrating Wisdom (2006), and Wild Awakening (2003).
