In December 2006 CIIS offers a rare and exciting opportunity to experience India in the company of a small group. Designed for both
first-time travelers and seasoned veterans to the subcontinent, this unique journey includes important destinations in the north and south
of the country, and a mix of options for adventure, relaxation, and reflection through meditation and yoga.
Trip Highlights
A week in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, home of ancient Dravidian art and culture and characterized by ornate and colorful Hindu temples. We stay in Auroville, the universal township founded on the principles of Sri Aurobindo, with many opportunities to explore this garden city by motor scooter. Daily yoga classes are available.
Day trips to Pondicherry, on the Bay of Bengal, and Chidambaram, site of an important temple where Shiva is thought to have danced the cosmic dance that brought forth creation.
Tours of Jaipur, the Rajasthani city of pink stone, and the nearby Amber Fort with its 400-year-old Temple of Kali.
Morning visit to the legendary Taj Mahal in Agra. Afternoon stroll through the perfectly preserved deserted Moghul city of Fatehpur Sikri.
Four days in Varanasi, one of the oldest and holiest of Hindu places, including a sunrise boat ride along the Ganges River. Afternoon trip to nearby Sarnath, where Buddha is believed to have delivered his first sermon after attaining nirvana.
