THE SUFI AND THE KABBALIST
A Mystical Dialogue between
Islam and Judaism
with Imam Bilal Hyde and
Rabbi Jonathan Omer-Man
Two Bay Area mystics, an imam and a rabbi, who are
close friends, share insights into their respective spiritual
journeys: their divergences and convergences, ascents and
descents, and teachers and teachings. This conversation, which
is a dialogue that has been taking place between mystics for
thousands of years, promises to illuminate how, through our
common mystical traditions, we can begin to heal the world’s
fragmentation.
| Imam
Bilal Hyde converted to Islam in 1968
and trained as an imam in Mecca and Medinah. He
has pursued traditional Sufism for 30 years and
currently teaches Qur’anic recitation. He
has served as imam at San Quentin State Prison
and for several Sufi orders.
Rabbi Omer-Man is
a scholar, writer, and guide on the Jewish mystical
tradition. He established and directed Metivta,
a center for contemplative Judaism in Los Angeles,
California. Now living in Berkeley, Rabbi Omer-Man
has delighted in the companionship of followers
of other paths throughout his life. |
