Remembrance:
A Sufi Intensive
Imam Bilal Hyde
In conjunction with the workshop Understanding Islam (see
page 12), Imam Bilal Hyde will offer this morning intensive
on Sufism, the mystical side of Islam. The Sufi teachings
focus of developing love, tolerance, and wisdom in a human
being. To awaken one’s inner nature, Sufis employ several
practices, including the repetition of sacred phrases, movement,
sound, devotion, breath, and prayer. In this morning intensive,
we will share the community of friends, participate in a “zikr,”
a remembrance through group repetition of sacred phrases,
and engage in a teaching discourse with Imam Bilal Hyde.
