Ritual
Anna Halprin
In contrast to systems of movement based on applied forms,
sequences, and poses such as yoga and dance, Movement Ritual
organizes a basic range of ordinary movements within the human
body. It also utilizes a variety of exercises to explore different
aspects of internally generated movement in order to develop
a greater body consciousness.
In this workshop, participants will perform Movement Ritual
lying down and standing up, and focus on elements such as
falls, lifts, balance, walks, leaps, and ways of shifting
weight and moving through space. By exploring both the somatic
realities and the subjective qualities of movement, you are
invited to discover and invent movement combinations that
deepen self-expression and your relationship to the body.
This workshop is ideal for dancers and yoga practitioners
who want to develop body awareness beyond form, and for those
who wish to deepen their awareness in the body.
