Child Abuse Therapy
Mark Fromm, PhD
This program is designed to meet the educational
requirements in child abuse therapy for licensure as a psychologist,
MFT, and LCSW.
In this experiential workshop, participants learn about the
definitions and indicators of abuse and neglect; the laws
and ethical principles regarding child abuse; methods of reporting
and the consequences of failing to report cases; and treatment
issues and techniques related to assessment, reporting, and
crisis counseling. Ongoing therapy with abused children, their
families, and with adults abused as children is discussed
and demonstrated. The course format includes lecture discussion,
role-playing demonstrations, and other activities.
Participants also learn about special issues in child abuse
reporting and treatment, including cross-cultural, gender,
and countertransference issues, and become familiar with available
community resources for the assessment and treatment of child
abuse. At the completion of this course, participants will
better understand the techniques for treatment of abused children,
their families, and adults abused as children.
