Poetry:
The Soul’s Language
John Fox
The experience of meeting the sacred in the world—in
nature, within yourself, or in another person—is often
difficult to express in words. Your deep breath, a look of
awe, the upwelling feeling of love from a deep inward place,
the caring embrace of another, tears streaming down your cheeks,
or simple silence—all these sometimes seem to be the
only way to express the ineffable, wordless space.
Yet another very powerful way to revive your connection to
spirit is through poetry, the language of your heart. In this
workshop, designed to evoke your unique soul voice, you will
explore the question: What opens your heart? Along with certified
poetry therapist John Fox, you will discover the ways sacred
poetry and your own writing can help tune you to choice, insight,
possibility, and joy.
In this writing workshop participants will read the poetry
of Mary Oliver, Wendell Berry, Rumi, Jane Kenyon, and Mary
Tall Mountain, as well as the Psalms of David and poems by
Zen poets, young children, and many other poets.
