PCC Canon - a list of authors and their associated texts with which every graduate from the Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness program ought to be familiar, regardless of their particular area(s) of specialization.
Esalen Institute - PCC has a very special relationship to Esalen, where each year students, faculty, and alumni gather for five days at the annual program retreat. The seeds of the PCC program were essentially planted at Esalen in 1987 when Richard Tarnas (founder and first director of PCC), Brian Swimme, and Robert McDermott (president of CIIS, 1990-99 and current program director) met at an invitational seminar, "Revisioning Philosophy".
Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) - The vision and research of IONS is very consonant with PCC. Several faculty members have presented at Noetics and have published, or been written about, in various IONS publications.
Green Earth Foundation (Ralph Metzner) - Ralph Metzner is faculty emeritus at CIIS in the East West Psychology Program Author of eight books on consciousness, Ralph was dean of CIIS (1976-88) and exercised a profound influence on CIIS for the past 30 years.
The Forum on World Religions and Ecology - There is growing recognition that multi-disciplinary efforts are necessary to produce comprehensive resolutions to our environmental problems. Directed by Mary Evelyn Tucker and John Grim, The Forum on Religion and Ecology is at the forefront of this emerging interdisciplinary dialogue, and brings the field of religious studies together with academic and activist discourse on the environment by highlighting the important roles that religious traditions play in constructing moral frameworks and orientating narratives regarding human interactions with the environment.
The New York Open Center - Founded more than 20 years ago, the New York Open Center, a non-profit educational and cultural center, offers programs intended to heal the body, nourish the soul and awaken the spirit. It aims to serve as a focal point for holistic thought and practice in the heart of New York City. In the 1980s Robert McDermott delivered approximately one hundred lectures at NYOC.
Auroville - An old CIIS friend, Auroville is the universal township in South India that, like CIIS, was founded in 1968 on the integral vision of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. CIIS courses and extensive visits are scheduled each January in Auroville.
Findhorn - An intentional community and ecovillage located in northeast Scotland, Findhorn has a resonance with CIIS similar to Auroville.
Schumacher College - An international centre educating and inspiring for sustainability, based in the beautiful Devonshire countryside of south-west England, Schumacher College is a sister institution, and a place in the U.K. where you can occasionally catch PCC faculty teaching and lecturing. The founder of Schumacher, Satish Kumar, spoke at the dedication of the CIIS building when it moved to Mission Street in 1999.
SF Jung Institute - Richard Tarnas and David Ulansey have lectured frequently at the SF Jung Institute, which also hosts an annual conference as well as courses and guest lectures.
JoannaMacy.net - Joanna's work is in service to the revolution of our time: the "Great Turning" from the industrial growth society to a life-sustaining civilization. Her areas of focus - from deep ecology and Buddhist teachings to the Work that Reconnects - are essential to PCC, and the program is delighted that she will be offering another course with us fall 2007.
Mass Extinction Underway - The most comprehensive website on the sixth mass extinction, this site was created by David Ulansey.
The Alchemy Website and Virtual Library - David Ulansey recommends this site, with over 90 megabytes online of information on alchemy in all its facets. Divided into over 1300 sections and providing tens of thousands of pages of text, it includes over 2000 images, 200 complete alchemical texts, extensive bibliographical material on the printed books and manuscripts, numerous articles, introductory and general reference material on alchemy.
Species Alliance - Species Alliance is a 501c3 non-profit organization formed by a group of PCC students and faculty in 2005 who had begun to seriously grapple with the mass extinction crisis. Its primary undertaking is a multifaceted, national public education and community outreach campaign designed to increase public awareness of the impending threat to the Earth's life support systems caused by dramatic extinction rates. Through the creation of a documentary film, curriculum, and outreach campaign, Species Alliance aims to raise public awareness of the mass extinction and ignite a sense of empowerment and purpose.
Student Alliance - Student Alliance is student-run organization that facilitates communication, sponsors events, and allocates funding to help CIIS students and student groups actualize the seven institute ideals. Funded by a percentage of student registration fees, Student Alliance supports student initiated projects, conference presentations, and community projects, coordinates with other campus groups to ensure student participation on Institute committees and advocates for the student voice within the Institute. Recent projects include free yoga for the CIIS community, the rooftop garden on the sixth floor, professional development workshops, the Student Multipurpose Space on the second floor, and a Student Survival Guide.
Commonway - Sharif M. Abdullah is an ally in the quest for other ways forward and a world that works for all. Sharif was a presenter in the 2003 PCC conference, Wisdom in Action.
Occidental Arts and Ecology Center - This non-for-profit and intentional community is one and a half hours north of San Francisco and offers a wealth of courses, from democratic decision-making to watershed management and biodynamic gardening.
Urban Permaculture Guild - A great local resource for sustainable solutions for urban dwellers, and a clearinghouse of information on Bay Area permaculture courses.
