Kim Thoman has exhibited
her paintings nationally and in the Bay
Area for 25 years, including solo shows
at Stanford Art Spaces, San Francisco Museum
of Modern Art Artists Gallery, and Monterey
Peninsula Museum, among other galleries
and museums. She has a master’s degree
in Ceramic and Sculpture from San Francisco
State University and is currently a tenured
professor in the Art Department at Merritt
College in Oakland, California. Fascinated
by the exploration of motion, movement,
and a sense of place, Thoman paints in a
different part of the country each summer,
and has worked in Virginia, Vermont, Santa
Fe, Portland, and other locales. She is
the recipient of a 2007 summer residency
grant at the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation
in Taos, New Mexico. The Tangled Witness
Series is comprised of oil pastels
on digital prints. Each piece in the series
began from the layering and juxtaposition
of work from two previous series, entitled
Spiral Series and Motion Series.
