James Montgomery is a Filipino-American mixed-media artist who was born in Marin County, California, in 1936. His work has been exhibited throughout the country, most recently at the Outsider Art Fair in January 2007 and at the Berenberg Gallery in Boston. Montgomery has been working in the studio at Creativity Explored since 1993. The iconography of his art centers on watches, numbers, sewer covers, and bridges. Watches are especially relevant as he collects them, often wearing eight at one time. His graphically powerful works are often composed of line drawings of repeating watches, covering the picture plane in overlapping layers. Recently, Montgomery has utilized his trademark washes of color in portraits, landscapes, and marine scenes.
