Priyanka Gupta comes from the city of Kolkata, India, also called the “City of Joy” for its people and the passion with which they lead their lives. This passion has found its way into her conceptions and expressions of the colors of life on a canvas. Gupta’s solo exhibition in 2004 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kolkata received high acclaim in the media and was widely appreciated by leading art critic Samir Dasgupta and others. A recent graduate of San Francisco Art Institute, Gupta has held numerous exhibitions around the Bay Area and in India including several charitable exhibition auctions by Concern India Foundation and international exhibitions such as Visual Aid, Root Division, The Lab, and Works/San Jose. Through her artistic journey she attempts to bridge the cultural gaps between the Eastern and Western worlds she inhabits, expressing the subtle strengths of women and exploring feminism in the context of Indian society. The spiral is a recurring motif in many of her paintings, symbolizing magic, dreams, desires and, most importantly, eternity. Gupta lives and works in Mountain View, California.
