Pauletta M. Chanco was born and raised in the Philippines until age 17, when she came to California to study painting at UC Berkeley. Chanco has exhibited at the Takada Gallery, Sundance Film Festival (2005), and the Oakland Museum in California, as well as several galleries in Hawaii and Japan. She has taught painting and drawing as a UC Berkeley visiting faculty member, and presently is core faculty at the SF Studio School. Chanco discovered early in life a deep connection between painting and spirituality. For the past 15 years, her painting style has evolved through the use of metaphors in abstraction, and recently the
movement between sacred and profane space has been an inspiration. She employs a transparent layering technique, using beeswax in the encaustic medium (on wood panel) or in layers of acrylic washes (on linen canvas).
