Barry Bernstein

"Barry's programs merge ancient traditions with modern technologies to explore the health benefits of drumming and rhythm."
—Mickey Hart, Percussionist, Author

Music therapist Barry Bernstein uses percussion instruments and rhythmic patterns combined with movement and relaxation exercises to demonstrate how rhythm can be used to improve one's social and communication skills, concentration, and self-image. Novices and well-trained musicians will find that this workshop makes participating in music a fun, successful, and self-satisfying experience.

Hands-on experiences demonstrate basic group facilitation principles and general hand percussion techniques. This workshop is ideal for teachers, therapists, and other health care professionals.

Barry Bernstein is a registered music therapist who has developed programs on the use of music therapy to treat a number of mental and physical disorders, including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases, attention deficit disorders, autism, and stroke rehabilitation. He is the founder of Healthy Sounds, a consulting service dedicated to spreading the word about the power of music and rhythm. Barry has also developed corporate wellness drumming programs for companies such as Sprint and Bayer Agricultural. His work has been featured in many national publications, including Oprah magazine, The New York Times, and U.S. News & World Report. Visit his website at www.healthysounds.com.
