YOGA ASANAS AND
THE EMOTIONS:
BRINGING HARMONY
TO BODY AND SOUL

Sophia Reinders

Our body is our most immediate home on earth. It is the receptacle of our stories, sculpted in the flesh of our being. It is the guardian of our insights and intuitions, of our longing-to-become, and of our celebration of life on earth.

Yoga asanas and breath practices allow kinesthetic-emotional-imaginal experiences, often restricted in the body, to come to awareness and be integrated in consciousness. This freeing through awareness from restrictive physical and mental/emotional-holding patterns creates a more organic balance in the body and mind, which finds expression in a greater range of motion, as well as in more constructive, enhancing emotions.

In this workshop, you will practice asanas, kinesthetic awareness meditation, and breathing. Through guided imagery, active imagination, painting, and creative writing, you will give symbolic expression to the kinesthetic-emotional-imaginal experiences encountered in your body, and may celebrate your embodied intuitions of harmonious and joyful transformation.

Sophia Reinders, Ph.D., MFT, is a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher, a Jungian- oriented psychotherapist in private practice in San Francisco and Corte Madera, and a faculty member at CIIS.
