CREATING OPTIMISM AND
OVERCOMING DEPRESSION
WITH THE UPLIFT PROGRAM

Bob Murray and
Alicia Fortinberry

This highly experiential workshop offers the acclaimed breakthrough method known as the Uplift Program for overcoming blocks to happiness and fulfillment. This method, featured in the best-selling book Creating Optimism: A Proven, Seven-Step Program for Overcoming Depression, employs powerful and innovative techniques that stimulate the brain to seek out new, more positive patterns of beliefs, behavior, and relationships. According to the latest research in psychology, neurobiology, anthropology, and body/mind interactions, as well as in traditional wisdom, the Uplift Program (www.upliftprogram.com) has a 94 percent success rate in dramatically improving mood and relationships.

This workshop explores the real causes of the depression spectrum, including somatized illness, the aspects of modern life that engender low mood and anxiety, and the effects of childhood trauma on the brain and body. Participants will develop unique, needs-based relationship skills that ensure self-esteem and competence. The workshop involves the whole self with gentle Feldenkrais®-based movement lessons, meditation, games, rituals, and creative writing.

Bob Murray, Ph.D., and Alicia Fortinberry, M.S., are a psychologist and psychotherapist, respectively, who are internationally recognized experts in depression and relationships. Bob's innovative and proven theories and techniques include applying evolutionary psychology to the social causes and treatment of depression. Alicia has developed cutting-edge techniques for using movement to enhance well-being. They have trained health professionals at major universities and teaching hospitals, including Duke University Medical Center, Tufts University Medical Center, John F. Kennedy University, and the University of South Florida.
