IMPROVISATION
AND CREATIVITY

Kitty Margolis and
Alfonso Montuori, Ph.D.

In this highly experiential workshop, participants explore the nature of creativity, improvisation, and jazz, and learn how to apply these principles to their everyday lives. Through a combination of stories, musical examples, and exercises, you are invited to examine your own understanding of and capacity for creativity and improvisation.

Participants identify and replace beliefs that limit their creative potential and learn how to expand on their inherent creative and improvisational skills. Ultimately, they learn how to approach many situations in life through a creative—and improvisational—lens.

Kitty Margolis is a critically acclaimed jazz singer, renowned for her original artistry and improvisational abilities. She has performed on four continents and her CDs have garnered rave reviews and Top Ten radio play all over the country. A faculty member of the Jazzschool in Berkeley, she is also a noted educator, keeping the jazz tradition alive through master classes in the Bay Area and around the globe.

Alfonso Montuori, Ph.D., is a faculty member at CIIS and an international consultant focusing on creativity, innovation, and executive development. He is the author of numerous books and articles on creativity and improvisation, an interest that stems from his days as the leader and saxophonist for a London world-beat band in the 1980s. Alfonso is still actively involved in music, performing and producing award-winning recordings with his wife, Kitty Margolis.
