California Institute of Integral Studies, 1453 Mission Street, San Francisco, CA 94103 false MM/DD/YYYY

Two masterful world music innovators collaborate on new music for didgeridoo and frame drums.

Take Glen's Workshop on Drumming, Overtone Singing, & Mind-Body Synchronization the next day!

Reuniting after several years and many road miles, Glen Velez and Stephen Kent renew a musical kinship while presenting their latest musical sorcery. Both musicians share a love of diverse world musics and have invested careers in creating organic, groove-oriented music that proclaims its uniqueness while infusing the rhythms and melodies of our planet.

They will perform several new compositions, selections from their recent recordings, along with improvisations culled from the ancestral, sound-breath memory we all share. Welcome to our world of overtones, didgeridoo, frame drums, strumsticks, buzz sticks, sruti boxes, and percussion.

Glen Velez, a four-time Grammy Award recipient, has played a seminal role over the last 25 years by introducing the frame drum to modern audiences. He has taught extensively worldwide, investigating the healing properties of drumming and sound. As a master teacher, he has developed his own approach called The Handance Method, incorporating voice and body movement into learning to play the frame drum. His most recent recording is Rhythms of the Chakras, Volume 2. www.glenvelez.com and www.myspace.com/glenvelez

Multi-instrumentalist and composer Stephen Kent is one of the premier didgeridoo virtuosos in the contemporary world. His catalog of more than 20 CD releases spans from 1988 to the present day, and includes six solo albums. He has worked with extraordinary musicians around the planet including Airto Moreira (Brazil), Zakir Hussain (India), Habib Koité (Mali), Rahim AlHaj (Iraq), Zap Mama (Belgium, Congo), Omar Sosa (Cuba), and Paul Horn (USA). He also has hosted a popular weekly "Music of the World" show on Pacifica Radio's KPFA for the past 18 years. www.stephenkent.net
