| Josie Levine (PHD, CLN PSY, '93) is in full-time psycho-dynamic private practice in Berkeley and Concord. Her own sitting practice of vispassana has infused her professional life and she has found that the influence of Buddhism, specifically mindfulness practice, has allowed her to offer her clients the most effective format for ending suffering. This fall, she will begin leading "A Year To Live" groups based upon Stephen Levine's book of the same name. These will be monthly groups exploring the process of what happens if they have just one year left to live.
Gale R. Lipsyte (Ph.D., CLN PSY, 1995) is a Clinical Psychologist in Berkeley and San Francisco where she practices adult psychotherapy as well as offering individual and group consultation for therapists. She has taught and supervised in Bay Area institutes, has served as director of doctoral studies, and continues her longstanding exploration and interest in the intersection of depth psychology and spirituality. She is an Advanced Candidate at the C.G. Jung Institute of San Francisco.
Amy Bandera, Psy.D., 2004, started her private practice as a psychological assistant in 2002 and focused her training in the psychoanalytic approach to psychotherapy. Shortly before graduating from CIIS, her paper, “Hysteria and the Transformation Spectrum," won the Northern California Society for Psychoanalytic Psychology's (NCSPP's) Student Paper Award. Currently, she works in private practice in San Francisco where she treats adults and couples.
Susan Corcoran Christy,
Ph.D., 1994, is a CIIS trustee. She is
a consultant and trainer whose clients include
major corporations, colleges, universities,
and nonprofit organizations. As a professional
speaker and TV talk-show host, she speaks
about psychology, business, team building,
and empowerment.
John B. Coyne, M.A. Somatic Psychology,
1995 and Psy.D., 2003 , has spent
the past five years working Community Focus,
a San Francisco agency that offers "assertive
community treatment" for a culturally
diverse population of chronically mentally
ill adults. He is also teaching a course
on assessment and diagnosis for the Somatics
program at JFK University.
Jose Parappully, (PhD, ’97), is living and working in New Delhi, India where he is the founder and director of the Bosco Psychological Services and the Sumedha Centre for Psychology and Spirituality. Besides his psychotherapy practice he offers a variety of residential programs for renewal of body, mind and spirit through the integration of psychology and spirituality. He is also a consultant at a number of institutions and is on the Editorial Team of Psychological Foundations—The Journal.
Michael Riera, Ph.D., 1993, is dean
of students at Marin Academy in California.
His books include: Uncommon Sense for
Parents with Teenagers, Surviving High School,
and The Complete Idiot's Guide to a Well-Behaved

Faith A. Robinson, Ph.D., 1994,
received the 1999 Monterey County (Calif.)
Psychologist of the Year award from Consumer
Business Review. Her most recent publication
is "Disassociative Women's Experiences
of Self-Cutting" in Phenomenological
Inquiry in Psychology.
Cassandra Vieten, Ph.D., 1998, is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, an Associate Scientist at California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute, and a Research Psychologist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences. She is a recipient of National Institutes of Health and California State research funding to study the role of regulation of negative emotion in alcoholism and other addictions. Dr. Vieten also conducts research on spiritual transformation and mindfulness-based approaches to well-being, and is currently studying mind-body approaches to stress reduction during pregnancy.
Barbara Berman, (CLN ’93), is currently a private practitioner for adolescents and adults in Marin County. Additionally, she volunteers at County Community School - a continuation school in San Rafael where she runs a young men's group and help the school in a variety of ways including interviewing new students, and working with the principal on ways to improve the curriculum. Barbara also meets with a group of colleagues to establish a consortium of providers and trainers committed to social change through the practice of Cultural Competency.
Stuart Sovatsky (PSY, ’84) Co-president of the Association for Transpersonal Psychology, is co-convening the World Congress on Psychology and Spirituality Delhi India, in 2008 where the Prime Minister of Tibet-in-exile, Lama Samdhong, will inaugurate, along with BKS Iyengar, SS Ravi Shankar, Robert Thurman, Stan and Christina Grof and folks from 25 countries.
