Financial aid eligibility is determined
by each students need, which is defined
as the difference between the estimated
cost of education, other anticipated resources
(such as scholarships or tuition benefits)
and an amount expected to be contributed
from the students resources (including
employment and assets). This amount (known
as EFC or "expected family contribution")
is derived by a formula determined by the
US Department of Education.
CALCULATION OF NEED
Financial need is defined as the difference
between the estimated Cost of Attendance
and available resources as follows:

DEFINITION OF COST ATTENDANCE
The Cost of Attendance (COA) is an estimate
derived by the Financial Aid Office each
year based on estimated living expenses
and tuition costs per program, and includes
the following: Tuition and Fees, Housing
and Food, Books and Supplies, Transportation,
Personal and Miscellaneous.
TUITION RATES
For current tuition rates and fee schedule,
please refer to the printed Schedule of
Classes or see
this page. You should expect tuition
rates to increase every year; new tuition
rates will become effective Fall Semester.
LIVING EXPENSES
Estimated living expenses are based on a
statewide average from a survey conducted
by the California Student Aid Commission(with
adjustments to reflect costs of the San
Francisco Bay Area). Your personal expenses
may vary based on your standard of living
and where you live.
COST OF EDUCATION
The following table (based on 2006-2007
tuition rates for full-time) can help you
to estimate your expenses for an academic
year. Note that CIISs award year is
Fall through Summer, even though some programs
do not require summer enrollment. If you
intend(or if your program requires you)
to enroll for the full year, you should
take into consideration the full years
estimated costs.

When applying for admission to California Institute of Integral Studies visit or call the Financial Aid Office for information on federal student loans and obtain the necessary forms and application materials (or download from this website). Below are the steps for completing your financial aid application:
If this is your first time applying
for federal student aid, request a PIN from
the department of education at
www.pin.ed.gov. You'll need a PIN to
electronically sign your FAFSA and (if appropriate)
your Promissory Note for your student loan.
Submit the FAFSA to the department
of education either electronically FAFSA
on the web at www.fafsa.ed.gov)
or by mail. Allow 3-6 weeks for processing
and delivery of you Student Aid Report (SAR).
If you use your PIN, the processing time
can be as short as 3-5 days. CIIS's school
code is 012154.
If you are applying for a scholarship, submit the completed application according to the appropriate deadline. Complete the CIIS loan request form and other forms required by the Financial Aid Office. Provide any additional information requested by the Financial Aid Office.
What happens next?
Once we receive you SAR, we will send you a letter detailing what other information we need from you in order to complete your financial aid application. We will also send you any necessary forms. We will also send you information on how to complete some of the materials on-line, After you file is complete, the Financial Aid Office will process your request and transmit the loan data electronically to your lender. The Financial Aid Office will also send you an award notification showing the amounts certified. All students who receive a student loan are required to complete a "Loan Counseling Interview" before they can receive their first federal financial aid disbursement. This can be done either in person or on-line. The Financial Aid Office will provide instructions to all borrowers receiving loans for the first time while attending CIIS. If this is your first loan at CIIS (or if you have changed your lender) you will receive information on how to sign your Master Promissory Note (MPN) for your federal loans electronically using your PIN.
Funds are normally disbursed from the lender
to CIIS electronically. Loans will be disbursed
in equal installments, at the beginning
of each semester and after the end of the
add/drop period. The Financial Aid Office
will review your enrollment and authorize
the business office to apply the funds to
your account. Tuition and fees will be deducted
from your loan and CIIS will issue any remaining
funds to you.
