A Circle of Women in My Head and Heart:
Experiences of Women's Spirituality
In an Academic Setting

by Della Huber

Two women talking, terra cottaWomen's Spirituality attempts to heal the splits in modern culture that are the result of thousands of years of dualistic thinking. It provides a critique of culture, an alternative vision, and the tools for change. However, a defining aspect of Women's Spirituality is that it defies definition. Della interviews twelve of the first students in the M.A. program in Women's Spirituality at CIIS to better understand the experience of living one's spirituality in an academic setting. The themes consist of healing, community, self-empowerment, creativity, work, and spiritual practice. From this embodied standpoint, these women create knowledge, give it meaning in their private and public lives, and challenge patriarchy's dominance of religion and academia.
