Making Sacred Space
The Art of Women's Spirituality

by Helen Horigan

Marble head of SapphoHow do women create sacred space? This inquiry explores the practice of women's spirituality/feminist consciousness in daily life by looking at creative work as practice in three intertwining circles: individual, family/community, and wise livelihood. Helen combines research, personal experience, and the experiences of others. Drawing from her own communities, she interviews feminists (living and working with intention toward restoring women to full humanity, and reintegrating that which has been split and compartmentalized) who have creative centering practices, and who bring their feminist consciousness/spirituality into work. The result is a mandala, a sacred circle, in which the woman in creative practice is the woman in community is the woman at work. It is about creating a world that is sacred space - a sane, safe place for women and thus for all beings.
