Re-Genesis:
A Mother-line Archive of Feminist Spirituality

by Eahr Joan

library at EphesusRe-Genesis is an on-line data base of human history from 64,000,000 B.C.E. to the present. This trans-cultural, historical timeline consists of annotated chronological entries supported by photographic images. Redressing the imbalance of traditional androcentric models, the gender selections emphasize the female role throughout the ages, underscoring significant dates of cultural shifts and takeovers as they impacted all aspects of life. The purpose of this timeline is to re-member and celebrate the female as co-contributor and co-maker of ancient and contemporary history, and to re-member and celebrate her rightful sacred origins, thereby authenticating the mother-line story of feminist spirituality. As birthed in this study, Eahr expands the concept of feminist spirituality with her introduction of the term Eco-thealogy (or nature-goddess) in which all life forms in the cosmos are interconnected and immanently sacred.

By creating an on-line data base rather than a monograph, Eahr invites men and women to share in the process of recreating one's own mother-line story in a non-linear, self-directed experience.

Master's Thesis, December 1999

Before there was a language or a discipline of Women's Spirituality, Eahr Joan began a personal quest to substantiate evidence of the spiritual origins of the female, which were then missing from academic texts. For a period of twenty years, she conducted research and traveled extensively in North Africa, the Near East, Europe, and the Americas, collecting thousands of sacred images at ancient sites and museums, most of which she photographed herself. She has presented her work at numerous classes and conferences and is currently Adjunct Faculty in Women's Spirituality at CIIS, where she also works as Library Serials and Circulation Co-ordinator.
