Coyote, Coffins and Cocoons:
Integral Ecofeminism
As a Path to Our Sustainable Future

by Chandra Marie-Michael Alexandre

Tunis MWe are poised at an evolutionary crossroads. How can we strive for positive change which honors the interdependence of all living things? Looking at transformation in personal, cultural, and global terms, Chandra presents Coyote as change agent as she examines existing paradigms and paradoxes. Coffins hold the death of the old, the patriarchal residues of a domination mentality which values oppositional, dualistic thinking. Cocoons act as a container for the birth of the new, holding the dynamics of balance and (r)evolution. By envisioning a spiritual philosophy with which to promote life-affirming change, Chandra presents a radically revisioned and integral ecofeminism which she named DAEA - Dynamic Advaita Ecofeminist Awareness.

Master's Thesis, May 1997

Chandra Alexandre's long experience as an activist in the animal rights movement enabled her to envision ecofeminism as an integral philosophy capable of cultural and planetary transformation. Chandra continues to integrate theory and practice. She formed the Maa Batakali Cultural Mission, Inc., a non-profit, interfaith, and cross-cultural religious corporation and church dedicated to promoting awareness of the Divine Feminine. Chandra is a member of the Association of Interfaith Ministers.
