Is there an online option for the program?
While the Womens Spirituality program is
residential, there is some degree of flexibility
for completing coursework at a distance. The department
has now begun offering one online course per semester.
It also offers classes during our summer semester,
which operates on an 8 week schedule. Through
its sponsored trips abroad, students can also
receive academic credit.
What is the language requirement, at the Ph.D.
level?
Students must have completed the equivalent of
two years of foreign language study at the university
level. This can be done concurrently with coursework
in the program, if not completed by the time of
entry to the program.
What type of work do graduates pursue?
Many students who enter the program have worked
in, and plan to return to, non-profit settings
such as schools, social service and health care
agencies. Many Ph.D. graduates will continue their
own research, work as consultants, or as professors.
For some examples, see Alumni
at Work.
How is the program organized? How many classes
does a full-time or part-time student have to
take? Do most students work and study?
Full-time students take 3 courses per semester;
part-time students must take 2 classes in order
to qualify for financial aid. On average, students
are in class 6-9 hours per week, with an additional
15-20 hours of study time. Classes are held throughout
the week, with at least one evening class offered
every semester. Most students do work at least
part-time while they are in school, both on- and
off-campus.
