Successful Somatic Psychology program students
have a wide variety of academic backgrounds, including
in psychology, the humanities, and the arts. They
generally have experience with somatic modalities,
such as dance and movement, martial arts, yoga,
and specific somatic psychotherapies. Most CIIS
graduates complete the requirements for the Marriage
and Family Therapy (MFT) license and develop their
own creative private practices. Many go on to
work with a variety of community agencies, while
others pursue doctoral degrees or seek to integrate
somatic work into healing or art-related professions.
Among alumni are:
Alan Silva, M.A., 1998, is acting director
of MOVE (Men Overcoming Violence).
Lori Clarke, M.A., 1995, is director of
the North Atlantic Institute for Somatic Education.
She is involved in issues of violence, childbirth,
education, and women's health.
Robin Greenberg, M.A., 1995, MFT, adjunct
faculty in the Somatic Psychology departments
at CIIS and JFKU, has a psychotherapy office
in San Francisco where she practices Jungian-oriented
psychotherapy from a somatic perspective.
David Berger, M.A., 1994, is an assistant
professor and academic coordinator of clinical
education in an innovative graduate physical therapy
program at Notre Dame College in New Hampshire.
He brings a holistic approach to his work, integrating
somatics, psychology, and physical therapy.
