East-West Psychology Graduate Program

Course of Study

Master's Degree Curriculum
The Master of Arts in East-West Psychology is a two-year program that provides an ample degree of flexibility to students. They focus on an area of study while exploring a wide array of Western, Eastern, and indigenous approaches to psychology and spirituality. With the guidance of advisors and within the program's parameters, students design their own individualized curriculum, as well as their own area of specialization and psychospiritual sequence.

Foundational Courses (7 units)

· Psychology and Spirituality Course
· M.A. Integrative Seminar

East-West Psychological Approaches (9 units)  
 Choose 3 courses among:
      - Depth Psychology
      - Transpersonal Psychology
      - Consciousness Studies
      - East-West Spiritual Counseling

Eastern Spiritual Traditions (6 units)
· Eastern Theories of Self, Mind, and Nature
· Eastern Spiritual Traditions Elective

Psychospiritual Practice (3 units)

Doctoral Degree Curriculum
The Ph.D. program in East-West Psychology consists of a foundational course, research methods courses, research colloquia, advanced seminars, a student-designed area of specialization, and a dissertation. Students focus on a specific area of study and develop methodological skills. They work closely with their advisors to design an individualized curriculum and participate in an ongoing research colloquium. For more information, call 415.575.6155.

Choose 2 courses among:
   -  Heuristic Research
   - Phenomenological Research
   - Narrative Research
   - Womanist-Feminist Theories and Methodologies
· Research Colloquium (2 semesters)

Advanced Ph.D. Seminars (6 units)
Seminars’ topics include: Spiritual Intelligence, Jung and Contemporary Spirituality, Comparative Mysticism, Principles of Healing, Contemporary Transpersonal Theory, and Consciousness and Spiritual Growth.

Electives (16 units)
A minimum of 10 units of doctoral elective work must be in an area of specialization, which include: Depth Psychology, Transpersonal Psychology, Consciousness Studies, and East-West Spiritual Counseling.
