Nurturing Tao: Classical Qigong and Taiji with Deng Ming-Dao
Over the course of thousands of years, Taoists have developed a complete system of health and long life by integrating philosophy, spirituality, and exercise. This seminar will introduce several classical Taoist exercises: muscle-change classic qigong, Eight Pieces of Brocade qigong, taiji standing meditation, taiji movements, and sitting meditation. But more than that, this workshop will emphasize the integration with philosophical ideas from such sources as the Daodejing and the I Ching, revealing a unified system that connects the simplest stretching to the most abstract cosmological concepts.
Qigong and taiji movements are excellent for promoting healing, managing chronic pain, and building internal strength. Following Tao-The Way-becomes an enriching life of being nurtured by nature, and nurturing our own nature in turn.
Deng Ming-Dao is an author, artist, teacher, and book designer. His latest book is The Lunar Tao, published by HarperOne in 2013. Among his other books are: 365 Tao, Chronicles of Tao, Scholar Warrior, Everyday Tao, The Living I Ching, and Zen: The Art of Modern Eastern Cooking. His books have been translated into sixteen languages. Deng Ming-Dao has trained with four teachers for nearly forty years, with an emphasis on the internal systems of xingyiquan, baguazhang, and taijiquan. During his thirteen years with his main Taoist teacher, Kwan Saihung, he studied martial arts, qigong, meditation, and philosophy, and assisted in teaching classes and seminars in the Bay Area and across the country.
