The Way of the Shaman: The Basic Workshop with Michael Harner and Susan Mokelke

Developed by Michael Harner after decades of research and experimentation, core shamanism consists of the universal, near-universal, and common principles and practices that shamans use to enter a non-ordinary reality for problem solving, well-being, and healing. Susan Mokelke will lead the participants in a series of experiential exercises to learn the fundamental methods for successful shamanic journeying-using classic shamanic drumming to access the shamanic state of consciousness-to receive answers to important life questions and to do healing work. There will be an introduction to core shamanism and question and answer session with Michael Harner, international authority on shamanism and the originator of core shamanism, before lunch on Saturday. This workshop is a prerequisite for all advanced workshops and training courses given by faculty members of the Foundation for Shamanic Studies. www.shamanism.org

Susan Mokelke, JD, co-teaches with Michael Harner for the Foundation for Shamanic Studies and teaches the FSS Pacific Northwest summertime Three-Year Program in Advanced Initiations in Shamanism and Shamanic Healing. Her articles on shamanism include: "Effective Core Shamanic Drumming Circles," "Ethical Considerations in Shamanic Healing," and "Core Shamanism and Daily Life." She has studied and practiced core shamanism since 1996 and serves as the president of the foundation.

Michael Harner, PhD, anthropologist and founder of the Foundation for Shamanic Studies, is internationally recognized for originating core shamanism and pioneering the return of shamanism and the shamanic journey to the West. He has done fieldwork in the upper Amazon, western North America, Samiland (Lapland), and the Canadian Arctic.
