Child Abuse Assessment with Mark Fromm

Assessing and treating child abuse is a highly challenging endeavor requiring the use of the entire "therapeutic instrument" of the psychotherapist. We need to bring a solid understanding of ourselves, a range of well-developed personal and therapeutic capacities, a high degree of clinical knowledge, and a strong set of clinical skills to the task. This course will provide you with up-to-date knowledge of child abuse laws, a practical understanding of how to assess and manage various child abuse situations, a wide range of effective treatment perspectives and ideas, and greater awareness of your own individual strengths or limitations in this area. Special attention will be paid to the larger contexts in which child abuse occurs, including the familial, sociocultural, and spiritual, and how these perspectives can be utilized in assessment and treatment.

The Clinical Psychology (PsyD) Program at CIIS

The PsyD Program at CIIS is unique. Located in the heart of San Francisco, ours was the first accredited university in North America to offer programs that connect the insights of Western psychology with Eastern spirituality. We continue today to present a dynamic clinical psychology curriculum that combines the latest scientific research with the world's great wisdom traditions. We believe that such a synthesis permits deep understanding of the human condition, as well as insight into the most effective ways of helping those in need. The PsyD Program is carefully designed to prepare students for practice-focused careers in clinical psychology. As a member of the National Council of Schools and Programs of Professional Psychology (NCSPP), our practitioner-scholar training model provides broad and general education in clinical psychology that, in addition, integrates depth-psychological, societal, ecological, and spiritual dimensions of human experience into the curriculum.
