Essential Elements of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction with Steve Flowers
Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) has been extensively researched as a powerful and effective resource for a large variety of psychological and physical issues. MBSR is the vehicle through which hundreds of applications of mindfulness have entered into Western medicine, psychotherapy, and society. In this course, attendees will have the opportunity to learn the salient features of MBSR through didactic instruction and intensive experiential practices that enable them to tap into their own deepest, inner resources for learning, growing, and transformation. Atendees in the healing profesions will also learn to apply MBSR to their practice with clients. Each of the two workshops offers a separate focus, and are appropriate for therapists, healers, students, and anyone interested in personal growth and development.
Steve Flowers has been deeply involved in meditation practice since 1974 and is the author of The Mindful Path through Shyness, and coauthor (with Bob Stahl, PhD) of Living with Your Heart Wide Open. Flowers has been in private practice as a mindfulness-based psychotherapist since 1981. Certified as a mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) teacher, he founded and directs the MBSR program at Enloe Medical Center in Chico, California, and pioneered teaching MBSR online with video-conferencing tools. With a deep commitment to building bridges between the contemplative arts and mainstream medicine, he has led MBSR retreats for medical professionals several times a year since 1997 with Bob Stahl, and day-long workshops at Spirit Rock Meditation Center since 2009.
