Embodiment, Presence and Awareness in the Therapeutic Process
The program will emphasize the development of mindfulness/awareness as the fundamental ground for the therapeutic process. From the perspective of Mindfulness, healing does not require changing or fixing our experience, but discovering the capacity to find freedom in the midst of our innate, human, vulnerability. The program will include both didactic and experiential segments with time for discussion of the student's experience. The focus will be on mindfulness of the body, and a number of body- centered mindfulness practices will be taught. Specifically, we will explore experientially how being grounded in our physical form leads to ‘Presence,' and how this supports deepening our capacity to tolerate distressful feelings, emotions, and interactions. In addition, we will look into the obstacles that prevent us and the people we work with from being fully embodied.
