CIIS Professor Steven Tierney Elected President of California Association of Mental Health Counselors (CAMHCA)Apr 26 2010

California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) Professor Steven Tierney was recently elected president of the California Association of Mental Health Counselors (CAMHCA).

“We at CIIS are delighted that Professor Tierney has been chosen president of CAMHCA, especially at this critical moment when California is moving toward a new credential for counselors,” said Joseph L. Subbiondo, president of CIIS.

Professor Tierney is the chair of the Master’s in Counseling Psychology program at CIIS, and also founded and heads the Community Mental Health program there. He helped establish the Institute’s Clinic Without Walls, a new counseling center based in public housing that brings mental health services directly to those in need. Professor Tierney also serves on the Health Commission of the City and County of San Francisco.

CAMHCA is the California chapter of the American Mental Health Counselors Association. CAMHCA will work closely with the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) and other organizations to implement the new Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) credential, a license for counselors recently established by California state law.
