The Eight Limbs of Yoga with Mariana Caplan
Dec 12 2009 1:00PM - Dec 13 2009 8:30PM

About the Workshop
This course is designed to deepen our understanding of the larger context of yoga through exploring the 8 limbs of Classical yoga as outlined by Patañjali in the Yoga Sūtras, including: our attitude towards others and the world around us (yama), the ways which we regard ourselves (niyama), physical postures (āsana), breath control (prānāyāma), learning to draw in the senses (pratyāhāra), concentration (dhāraṇā), meditation (dhyāna), and integration (samādhi).
A combination of philosophy, contemplation, exercises, the chanting of sūtras, and facilitated discussion will be the means through which experientially engage an inquiry into these 8 limbs so that our understanding and practice of yoga becomes a vibrant and embodied experience that is integrated throughout our daily lives and our relationship to ourselves, others, and the environment.
