Against Longing/BeLonging: An Evening with Niloufar Talebi and Bobak Salehi

Iranian American writer, multimedia artist, performer, and translator Niloufar Talebi and composer/musician Bobak Salehi weave together a performance of exciting new writing from the Iranian diaspora with music and original storytelling.

Niloufar Talebi is a writer, artist, performer, and award-winning translator. She is the editor/translator of BELONGING: New Poetry by Iranians Around the World (North Atlantic Books, 2008), and the creator/performer of multimedia projects, Four Springs (2004), Midnight Approaches (2006), ICARUS/RISE (2007), and The Persian Rite of Spring (2010). She is the author of Ātash Sorushān (Fire Angels), a libretto reflecting on the decade since 9/11, co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall and Cal Performances. Visit her at www.NiloufarTalebi.com.
Bobak Salehi is a composer, arranger, multi-instrumentalist and a native of Iran. His formal music training has covered the Classical and Folk music of the Middle East, as well as Western classical music, Gypsy style violin, folk music of Latin America, electronic music and Flamenco guitar. He has studied Kamancheh with crossover recording artist Kayhan Kalhor of Yoyo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble. He recorded on the soundtrack of the award-winning film, Cathedral Park, and collaborated with Niloufar Talebi in the creation of original soundtracks for the multimedia theatrical pieces, ICARUS/RISE, and The Persian Rite of Spring.
Aside from these theatrical programs, Niloufar and Bobak have performed together at numerous other venues such as the Neustadt Festival of International Literature and Culture, The Red Poppy Art House, THe Riverside Theatre, and more.
