The Art of Improvisation with Silvia Nakkach and David Darling

Sep 24 2010

We are all born with the ability to sing, dance, and live a celebratory lifestyle. Music is one of the most natural ways to heal and rejoice in our spirit. Singing, chanting, and playing an instrument allow us to nurture a loving relationship with ourselves. This evening provides a humorous and energetic environment for deepening our relationship with our natural musical self. Through improvisational techniques and musical gestures from around the globe, we discover how distant worlds of music complete each other.

David Darling, cellist, composer, and educator, has opened hearts to the mystery of sound for four decades. He is celebrated for his energetic, loving, and accepting style in emancipating the musical soul. He has released eight solo albums and more than three dozen collaborative efforts with artists such as Paul Winter and Jan Garbarek.

Silvia Nakkach, MA, MMT, was named by Utne Reader as one of forty cutting-edge artists who will shake the art world. She is an award-winning composer and pioneer in the field of sound. She has collaborated with renowned shamans from several traditions, and studied raga singing with Ali Akbar Khan. She is a teacher and academic advisor for the Sound, Voice, and Music Healing Certificate at CIIS.
