Who is Singing? A Musical Path to Practical Spirituality with Silvia Nakkach
Nov 13 2010 - Nov 14 2010

This class explores the relationship of voice, music, states of consciousness, and intention in spiritual awakening. Integrating the shamanic, creative, and scientific dimensions of sound with the wisdom of sacred and aboriginal sound medicine, students become familiar with four powerful forms of chanting and clearing the mind through the use of the voice: pacifying with lullabies, protecting with mantras, inspiring with ragas, and liberating with icaros from the Peruvian Amazon. These are spontaneous musical transmissions from the spirit world that are "singing in" to the person rather than the person "singing out."
Drawing from traditions of Indian, Tibetan, and indigenous chants, the class offers innovative forms of vocal improvisation and divine utterances. Experience directly how music, combined with tone magic, opens energetic channels, promotes emotional health, and connects us with love. Participants gather an original repertoire of chants, learn about vocal technique, and get acquainted with applications of music healing informed by devotional chanting.
