Hakomi: The Refined Method with Ron Kurtz
Nov 5 2010

"You do not really understand something unless you can
explain it to your grandmother."
-Albert Einstein
The Refined Method (an evolved version of the older hakomi method) is based on recently discovered aspects of memory, including reconsolidation and the differences between an experiential self and a remembered self.
This evening lecture and demonstration is an introduction to the weekend workshop but may be taken separately as a stand-alone event.
The workshop will teach the basic elements of The Refined Method, using short talks, demonstrations, and a series of experiential exercises. The main elements include establishing an effective working relationship using compassion and present-centered awareness, gathering information about the client's history and beliefs through awareness of the client's nonverbal behaviors, experimenting with the client in a mindful state, and following the client's spontaneous behavior and integration as part of a healing process. All of these elements will be discussed and taught through experiential exercises. Full sessions will be demonstrated. A handbook will be provided.
Ron Kurtz, DHL (Doctor of Humane Letters), developed the Hakomi Method over a period of thirty-nine years. He has been leading workshops internationally since 1968 and trainings since the mid-1970s. He founded the Hakomi Institute in 1981; Ron Kurtz Trainings, Inc. in 1990; and with several colleagues, the Hakomi Educational Network (International). He has written or co-authored three books: The Body Reveals, Body-Centered Psychotherapy, and Grace Unfolding. His latest version of hakomi is called The Refined Method. In 2008 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the U.S. Association for Body Psychotherapy.
