The Use of Sound in Integrative Medicine with Dr. Mitchell Gaynor

Dec 5 2010

"I have never found a more powerful and transforming healing modality than music and sound."
-Dr. Mitchell Gaynor

Dr. Gaynor integrates music, vocalization, breathing, and meditation techniques. In this class he presents his sound-based practices for self-healing that you can use whether you're faced with disease or simply seeking relief from the stresses of daily life.
Numerous studies have demonstrated the health benefits of music. This class includes exercises with pure vocal sound and Vedic mantras to resolve tension, release emotion, and spur healing. The workshop uses the sounds of metal and quartz crystal singing bowls, each vibrating at a different frequency, to create a harmony that allows you to experience inner silence. Silence is not the absence of sound-it's like an empty vessel that allows you to connect with the deep source of your healing and well-being. In the workshop, Dr Gaynor will also review the studies documenting the beneficial effects of yoga and music therapy in patients with serious illness.

Mitchell Gaynor, MD, is founder and president of Gaynor Integrative Oncology, assistant attending physician at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, and clinical assistant professor of Medicine at Weill Medical College. He lectures at hospitals and international conferences, and conducts healing sessions using meditation and chanting with Tibetan bowls. Dr. Gaynor is the author of The Healing Power of Sound, as well as three other books focusing on healing, health and the environment, and cancer prevention. His newest CDs are Embracing Bliss and Sri Sanctuary. www.drgaynor.com
