The EXA department is delighted to officially announce that Phil Weglarz will be joining them as full time core faculty in the Fall. Phil Weglarz (CIIS EXA'05) is a licensed California Marriage and Family Therapist and Registered Expressive Art Therapist. He is a therapist, supervisor, lecturer, teaching artist and performer with experience offering therapeutic services for children, adults, and families in a variety of settings. Since 2009, Phil has served on the Board of the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association (IEATA). In 2010, Phil founded an after school and summer expressive arts program, which primarily serves a growing neuro-diverse community of boys, age 5-10 and their families, called "Active Imagination". Phil maintains a small private practice in Oakland, offering individual, couples, and family therapy in an arts studio setting.

Beginning in Fall 2012, Phil began teaching a number of core classes and offering supervision in the CIIS Expressive Arts Therapy program. In addition to continuing to teach during the Spring 2013 semester, Phil has been helping to build a partnership with Contra Costa Health Services, exploring ways to add expressive arts therapy to existing Healing Through the Arts programs, including recruiting and supervising three EXA alumni for paid internships and laying the groundwork for a 2013/14 practicum.

Kasey Varga is an alum of the Expressive Arts program and also serves as the Alumni and Marketing coordinator for the EXA Department. She also has a private psychotherapy practice in San Francisco where she specializes in romantic relationship.
