New Student Orientation
Tuesday, January 15, 2013
8:30 am-2:30 pm
Namaste Hall, Third Floor
1453 Mission Street
We begin each new semester with New Student Orientation. As is our standard practice, the day begins with a grounding meditation offered by a student followed by welcome remarks from President Subbiondo and short presentations from our Registrar and Financial Aid Offices.
One of the highlights of the day is always the Playback Theatre troupe, engaging students and mirroring their personal experiences through performance. Next we will offer a presentation on academic writing along with tips on how to become successful writers and scholars.
The Student Alliance Coordinator personally welcomes new community members to CIIS, giving an overview of how Student Alliance works and what opportunities are available to students. The Dean of Students introduces the CIIS 7 Ideals and Principles of Community in a presentation called “Building Beloved Community at CIIS: Integrating Spirituality and Compassion with Justice”.
Our last activity of the day is a screening of the film “Integral Yoga: Sri Aurobindo and the Mother’s vision of Supramental Consciousness and how Haridas Chaudhuri brought it to the West.” Students then meet with their individual academic programs for in-depth program-specific orientations.
We look forward to seeing you at orientation!
