Neil Freese is an artist, designer, amateur home barista, problem solver, and prolific doer of creative things. He is the Online Content and Social Media Manager for CIIS as well as an adjunct faculty member in the MFA Programs.
Neil exhibits artwork throughout the San Francisco Bay Area in solo shows and as a member of the Champagne and Nettles art collective. He is the co-curator at Classic Cars West Gallery, a member gallery of the world-famous Oakland Art Murmur. Neil works in a variety of mediums, including digital illustration, screen printing, mixed media sculpture, and collage. Using a geometric vocabulary, Neil invokes scale, distance and environmental complexity through myriad visual topographies.
In past lives Neil has been a newspaper reporter, copy editor, grocery store secret agent, pizza delivery driver extraordinaire, and a small business owner. As the founder of Bearpaw Paper and Crafts, Neil developed a line of imaginative and offbeat greeting cards, which he sold in select cities across the nation. He has been published in a number of small newspapers and publications, including the Boston Phoenix.
His hobbies include piñata construction and destruction, rec league softball domination, whimsical cartography, and an obsessive quest to brew the perfect cup of coffee.
