Performance and the Art of Resistance: A conversation with Velina Brown of The San Francisco Mime Troupe

Co-sponsored by the Center for Art and Social Justice at CIIS

Velina Brown is an award-winning actress, singer/songwriter, and director whose artistic home for the past 20 years has been with The San Francisco Mime Troupe. She has also performed at ACT, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, and StageWrite, among many other theatre companies. Brown makes work with a social conscience that informs and inspires while it entertains. She also coaches aspiring performers, and writes and speaks about the role of the artist in challenging times. She’ll be joining us at CIIS for a short performance and a discussion of the intersections of performing and cultural/political resistance.
