Mirie Levy, DrPH, MSG, CHES, a core faculty member in the IHL program, obtained her Masters of Science in Gerontology from the University of La Verne and Doctorate in Public Health from Loma Linda University. Dr. Levy specializes in Preventive Care and focuses on the integration of healthy lifestyle practices to lower the risk factors of chronic disease and disability. Her teaching appointments have included Lecturer of Community Health Education at California State University, Sacramento and teaching in lifelong education for Mt. San Antonio College's Emeritus program. Her research interests include successful aging and creativity, protective factors on health and aging, psychoneuroimmunology and mind-body interactions. Dr. Levy is a Certified Health Education Specialist and has facilitated the Tobacco-Dependence Treatment Program at Loma Linda's Veteran's Hospital and has provided group and individualized smoking cessation counseling at Loma Linda University's Medical Center. She has facilitated music therapy programs for dementia care communities using singing, instrumentation, and music to stimulate creative expression in persons with Alzheimer's disease. She has taught physical fitness and strength training for older adults, in addition to arthritis management, fall prevention and balance and mobility to specialized populations at senior centers, independent and assisted living communities, and skilled-nursing facilities. Dr. Levy is a trained facilitator of the evidence-based wellness drumming program, HealthRHYTHMS and is a member of the American College for Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) and Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI). She has presented at the Joint Conferences of the National Council on Aging (NCOA) and the American Society on Aging (ASA), and has given an expert testimonial before the California Senate on banning workplace smoking in long-term health care facilities.
