Health & Wellness Coaching Certificate

In addition to the M.A. degree, students earn the CIIS Certification in Integrative Wellness Coaching and Integrative Wellness Management.

The CIIS Certified Integrative Wellness Coach not only works with the conventional health coaching goals of lifestyle enhancement, wholesome nutrition, improved physical activity and stress reduction, but goes one step beyond and assists clients in social advocacy, complementary therapies, meaning, purpose and life vision.

The Certificate is obtained by taking the required courses within the two-year MA curriculum. The CIIS program has been awarded an unprecedented 402 contact hours as an International Coach Federation (ICF) Coach Specific Approved site. These hours can be applied toward the professional coach certifications offered by ICF.

Health Coaching: A Growing Job Market

Health coaching was listed by US Department of Labor statistics as within the top ten growing job markets in 2012. It is a rapidly growing profession that supports a commitment among diverse populations for holistic self-care and goal-setting. It is recognized in health research as necessary antecedent for improved self-care.

Many people recognize the need to change personal health habits in order to halt or reverse a chronic condition, but they don't believe that medical or psychological counseling is warranted. However, people often welcome a coach to help them demystify the steps required for successful change because coaches offer a de-stigmatized means for friendly and accessible support for the critical task of reducing lifestyle-generated illness.

Certificate in Guided Imagery

Students enrolled in the M.A. program may elect to take Transformative Imagery. Upon successful completion of the course, they will be awarded a Certificate in Guided Imagery. The course is described more fully here.

In addition, CIIS (BBS Provider #PCE652) is pleased to announce that the course meets the qualifications for 45 hours of continuing education credits for MFTs and/or LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavior Sciences. These practitioners, along with integrative health practitioners, psychologists, health coaches, doctors, nurses, licensed health care professionals, massage therapists, and somatic educators may enroll in the course for continuing education credits (CEUs). Read more here.

To receive a certificate in Guided Imagery, those seeking CEUs must:

• Attend all classes over the 15-week semester and document attendance weekly with a timesheet
• Demonstrate proficiency through dyad work, with informal and formal mentored observations
• Complete seven written assignments, including an academic paper
• Complete an additional 12 hours of practice sessions

Refunds

Transformative Imagery is the only class offered for stand-alone CEUs. As such, 100% of the course tuition is refunded if the course is dropped on or before CIIS's add/drop deadline. 75% of the tuition is refunded if the course is withdrawn before the third week of the semester. 50% is refunded if the course is withdrawn before the seventh week of the semester. There are no refunds after the seventh week of the course. The registration fee, if applicable, is non-refundable. Please refer to the Academic Calendar for specific deadlines.
