Curriculum for the Integral Counseling Psychology Weekend Program

The ICP program at CIIS can also be completed in a full-time weekend format. This is also designed to include all of the educational requirements for a master's degree program as mandated by the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS). Students who complete the program in this format are eligible to apply for a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) intern number in the state of California. Students may also elect to take additional coursework to gain eligibility for the Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) license in California.

The ICPW program schedule consists of a weeklong retreat each August and 5 weekend sessions every fall and spring semester. Despite not operating in the summer, the program is designed to be completed after three academic years, commencing after the third summer semester. There are no classes in June and July, except when students are enrolled in practicum during the third year.

Weekend sessions are Friday and Saturday 9am-8pm and Sunday 9am-4pm (except for the very first weekend of the program, which extends on Sunday night to 8pm).

The ICPW program is designed for working adults who are committed to obtaining a graduate education. Students can expect to handle approximately 10 hours a week of coursework. Students will begin practicum during their third year, which adds 10-20 hours each week of clinical training beyond class time and assignments. This will likely require reducing one's workload to accommodate.

During the third-year practicum experience, students will have hands-on clinical training and the opportunity to apply theory in direct contact with clients. Practicum prepares students for post-degree internships.

During their second year, numerous practicum orientations and specialized staff support students in the process of researching, applying to, and securing placements at a practicum site. Most practicum sites are not available on weekends, so students need to plan for the impact on their employment that a weekday practicum schedule may have.
