Integral Counseling Psychology Weekend Option

ICPW - The Weekend Program
The ICP program at CIIS also offers a full-time weekend option in addition to its regular weekday schedule. The curriculum of this program (ICPW) mirrors that of the regular ICP program and takes 3 years to complete.
The ICPW program schedule consists of a weeklong retreat each August and 10 weekend sessions September through May for 3 years, ending after the third Summer semester. There are no classes in June and July except when students are enrolled in practicum during the 3rd year. Weekend sessions are Friday & Saturday 9am-8pm and Sunday 9am-4pm (except for the very first weekend of the program which extends on Sunday night to 8pm).
Based on a cohort model; students begin, traverse and complete their coursework as a single cohort. Each year's cohort ranges in size from 20 to 40 students and contain one or two sections of 16-20 students in order to maintain a cohesive classroom experience and a low student-faculty ratio. The cohort becomes a network of support for its members both during the course of study and afterward as graduates transition into their counseling careers.
Coursework and Working Adults
The ICPW program is designed for working adults who are committed to obtaining a graduate education. Students can expect to handle approximately 10 hours a week of coursework. Students will begin practicum during their 3rd year which adds 10-20 hours each week of clinical training beyond class time and assignments. This will likely require reducing one's workload to accommodate. This is a transformational program that creates a learning community that is both deeply supportive and profoundly challenging.
ICPW and Practicum
During the 3rd year practicum experience students will have hands-on clinical training and the opportunity to apply theory in direct contact with clients. Practicum prepares students for post-degree internships.
Students are supported by numerous practicum orientations during their third semester/2nd year in researching, applying to and securing placements at a practicum site, as well as by the guidance of the Field Placement Office, Practicum Coordinator and ICPW Program Coordinator. There are less pre-approved sites for out of area students and thus can be difficult to secure a site; however the ICPW Program Coordinator can provide extra support when necessary. Most practicum sites are not available on weekends, so students need to plan for the impact on their employment that a weekday practicum schedule will cause.
