Nondual Wisdom and Psychotherapy: Emptiness and Love in and as the Therapeutic Encounter with Carey Cloyd, MFT

About the Presentation

There is a common understanding that clients come to therapy to have their problems solved and that therapists serve as problem solvers. What happens when therapy is not grounded in the conceptual paradigm of “problem holder” and “problem solver”? What can arise when the therapist is willing to see through the identity of being a therapist, while maintaining the role and appropriate boundaries? This presentation will explore the conscious experience of emptiness and love in the therapeutic encounter, and how to bring that forward in one’s own work as a therapist in supervision.

About the Presenter

Carey Cloyd, MFT, is a psychotherapist with a private practice in San Francisco and Marin County. She has been a counselor for more than a decade, and has practiced meditation regularly throughout. Carey draws primarily from her trainings in Hakomi and EMDR, and has served as co-coordinator for the Nondual Wisdom & Psychotherapy conference since 2009. Integral Counseling Psychology Master's Program

The Integral Counseling Psychology (ICP) program is one of five distinct master's in counseling psychology programs at CIIS. ICP was the first East-West, transpersonal psychology graduate program in the world. Transpersonal psychology is a framework in which Western schools of psychology are synthesized with the world's spiritual traditions. We view psychological healing and growth within the larger context of spiritual unfolding.
