Indigo Animal: Going Beyond the Known Territory with Rue Harrison Whittaker, MFT
About the Presentation
This presentation will explore connections between the experience of unconscious process through artwork and working with unconscious material in the therapeutic relationship. As an example, I will use a slide presentation of a body of creative work that became a transformative personal journey spanning a number of years. In retrospect, it’s clear that the work is closely related to Jung’s concept of active imagination. A path of recovery from loss and trauma will emerge.
"My theoretical orientation incorporates the work of analysts I admire, such as Bion and Winnicott, self psychology, and Jungian concepts. I have always done art and I’m interested in studying the unconscious in both the practice of therapy and the practice of art. In art, one experiences at times very alive moments when discoveries and connections come as if out of nowhere. In my therapeutic work, I am listening for and hoping to allow more life in my relationship with the client."
