Challenging Transferences in the Treatment of Trauma When Working with Adults with Susan Frankel

About the Presentation

This training will focus on transference/countertransference responses in the treatment of adult trauma. Included will be a discussion of the often paradoxical nature of trauma treatment—that our efforts to help heal traumatic events often requires a revisiting of traumatic states, introducing powerful and disavowed relational experiences into the therapeutic dyad.  Practical suggestions for holding the frame in the face of these challenging dynamics will be examined through a relational and attachment framework.

About the Presenter

Susan Frankel, MFT, has been in private practice in San Francisco since 1988. In addition, she is an adult-track clinical supervisor and trainer at the TALK Line Family Support Center and has recently joined the team of supervisors for the ICP program. She has been a clinical consultant and trainer for schools, agencies, conferences, and private practice, focusing on relational and attachment-based treatment strategies in the wake of trauma.
